Every number tells you how many mines are hidden in the eight cells touching it. Open every cell that isn’t a mine to clear the field. Your first click is always safe and always opens up a patch to start from.
Click to open a cell. Right-click to plant a flag where you think a mine is. Click a number that already has enough flags around it to open all of its other neighbors at once.
Tap to open and press and hold to flag. If you’d rather tap to flag, switch the bar under the board to Tap flags. The plus and minus buttons resize the cells.
Arrow keys move, Space opens, F flags and N starts a new game.
Clear the field before the clock runs out. The limit depends on the board: 1:30 for Beginner, 4:20 for Intermediate and 8:00 for Expert, and custom boards get a limit worked out from their size and how many mines they hold. The clock starts on your first click.
This is on unless you turn it off in Settings. A solver plays each board before you see it, so it can always be cleared with logic and you never have to gamble on a coin flip near the end.
